Derek's Story
Derek is a freelance play-by-play broadcaster.
Most recently, Derek served as a Broadcasting & Media Relations assistant with the Fort Wayne TinCaps. He was also the lead play-by-play broadcaster for Dodge City Community College & High School in Dodge City, KS. While in Kansas, he covered football, soccer, basketball, baseball and softball for both schools. He also called indoor soccer for the Kansas Bandits and arena football for the Southwest Kansas Storm. Derek graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN in May 2022.

Derek's broadcasting career began with an internship at Wells County Voice, in his freshman year at Norwell High School in Ossian, IN. Throughout high school and then again during the pandemic, Derek created and produced broadcasts of high school football, basketball, and baseball, all while providing play-by-play during the games.

At IU, Derek was a part of numerous broadcasts for several sports, including football, basketball, baseball, softball, and soccer. WIUX, Indiana University's student radio station, provided an outlet for him to do that, as well as Big Ten Network Plus, a digital streaming service that broadcasts games in an entirely student-run production. He served as the radio voice of Indiana softball in his senior year.
Derek is involved with multiple ministries at Hope Missionary Church in Bluffton, loves the Midwest, and is a high school baseball and football official in his spare time.
